7.04 Feisty Fawn

I upgraded to Ubuntu 7.04 Feisty fawn.
More precisely, I did a clean install, keeping my /home partition, after discovering that my not-so-happy changes to 6.06 & 6.10 resulted in a broken system (Ubuntu refused to shut down cleanly on exit, Firefox, upgraded from a 1.5.0.7 install via asher repos, had too many caveats,…).
Before embarking on a (long) journey to a clean tailored Ubuntu, I had some change made to Firefox (see Tweak Firefox 2.0.0.3)

    Done:

  1. Installed Thunderbird 2 through the Ubuntuzilla script. I am confident (more than this guy) with a script co-authored by Ayesiu.
  2. Tweak Firefox (again), and added:
  3. Installed nautilus-gksu
  4. 20070610: Installed a Matrox Millenium G400 dualhead video card bought on e-bay
  5. 20070618: ran dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg enough times to enable 24 bit screen depth on my ultra-generic LCD (enabling flash video, as in Youtube). The catch was not enabling framebuffer. “Section = “Device” section should read as Option "UseFBDev" "false"
  6. 20070630: added a cron job to Clean Up Old Thumbnails
    To do:

  1. Solve FlashPlayer problem (probably related to my old video card not accepting a screen depth of 24, bought new twinscreen video card, waiting), including using MediaPlayerConnectivity 0.8.3 and vlc.
  2. enable my second screen via xinerama. Huum, G400 card won’t do the trick : “the G400 only supports accelerated (ie Xv, mga) modes on one output at a time, or cloned to both, but not separately accelerated outputs at the same time. This is a hardware limitation.” [x]. Hope : “ 1 (ou 2) Matrox G400 : Matthieu Foillard me signale qu’il n’a pas réussi a faire fonctionner ces cartes en mode DRI. Mis à part ce détail, il n’a eu aucun problème” [x]
  3. enable a lbp-1120 printer (worked on 6.10, so should work on 7.04 but no !)
